Origins

At Snow Custom Knives I have a singular goal: To make the highest quality knives that I can, with the best fit, finish and practically usable designs, while adding a unique custom look that turns heads. But who am I and how did I get into this craft?

Where form and function meet seamlessly

My name is Jeff Snow.

I grew up in rural Pennsylvania, so hunting, fishing and the outdoors were a standard part of my life, as well as of those I associated with. Naturally, knives are a key tool in any of these activities, so in 2011 I decided that I wanted to try my hand at making my own knife. I purchased some O1 tool steel flat stock, micarta and the materials to build a forced air charcoal forge, and away I went. The ensuing 2 months were filled with lots of research and steady daily work while I taught myself the basics of heat treatment, tempering, handle work and leather sheath making. The knife that resulted from that time field dressed many deer and traveled the world on my belt during my time in the Marine Corps. But as life usually has a way of taking over, I didn’t make too many more blades after that one and the hobby was largely shelved until 2021.

In 2021 I decided to revive my old hobby and turn it into a professional level side business. I still use the stock removal process for crafting my blades from annealed flat stock, however I heat treat and temper them in an Evenheat electric kiln for peak heat treat accuracy, verify blade hardness with a Rockwell hardness tester on every blade, and perform cryogenic treatments on select steel types to ensure I get the best potential performance out of each knife. I believe that I have arrived at a level of product quality that I can market to the community - for my product to be used and appreciated by other outdoor enthusiasts with full confidence that it will perform to their highest expectations.

Each knife is made 100% by me, with no outsourcing. I offer knives in a wide range of steels including 80crv2, D2, 440C, CPM 3V and CPM S35VN. For handle materials I primarily work with micarta, G10, TeroTuf, TruStone, stabilized woods, carbon fiber, stainless steel, brass and copper. My goal is to provide a blade steel and handle combination that is visually appealing as well as durable and suited to its intended use. And of course, all handles are fully bonded together with a high quality epoxy.
